Sieging Fort William - The Cow Hill in 1746

Talk by Paul MacDonald

Organised by Lochaber Local History Society. Venue: Highland Cinema, Fort William. Tickets £4 or £20 for the whole season.

In February 1746, a few weeks before the Battle of Culloden, Fort William was sieged by the Jacobites. Stationed on the Cow Hill, they erected several batteries of cannon to batter the Fort. Meantime the soldiers in the Fort propelled mortars from the Fort in reply.

Paul MacDonald, originally from Glenuig, is a military historian and the owner of MacDonald Armouries, late of Edinburgh.

Paul has taken a particular interest in the Siege of Fort William and will outline the story of the 15-day conflict and will have on show some of the amazing artifacts he has found about the Cow Hill, from 14" mortars to a complete Jacobite hand grenade.

This will be rare chance to see the evidence of the Siege which has laid buried on the Cow Hill for 276 years!

Please note that season ticket holders (members), of whom we have about 75 just now, will have an area of the cinema reserved for them. These seats will be held until 7.50pm at which time they will become available for non-members, if unoccupied.

The cinema has a capacity of 108 and so all-season ticket holders(members) are advised to occupy their seat by 7.50pm.

All welcome at 8pm on Monday 5th December at the Highland Cinema
